TiME Committee Goals and Objectives

OBJECTIVES OF THE TECHNOLOGY IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION COMMITTEE

2005-2006

 

Goal I:  To foster among the AMATYC membership an understanding of the appropriate instructional use of technology in mathematics through the sponsorship of training activities, workshops, and conference presentations in the use of calculators, computers and other technologies in mathematics and mathematics instruction. The appropriate use of technology in mathematics instruction facilitates and/or enriches the learning process and the development of problem-solving skills.

 

Goal II:  To maintain the position statement on the Instructional Use of Technology in the Mathematics.

 

Goal III:  To foster communication among and between the national mathematics and mathematics education organizations on topics that relate to instructional use of technology in the mathematics classroom/laboratory. Special attention should be paid to joint funding opportunities and to the sharing of resource materials among organizations and colleges.

 

Goal IV:  To communicate the goals of the committee, and suggestions for their implementation, through the TiME Committee website and other AMATYC publications such as The AMATYC News and The AMATYC REVIEW.

 

Goal V:  To collect data, review software and studies on the effect of technology such as computer and graphing calculators in classroom. These studies should be available through the committee’s website.

 

Goal VI:  To develop criteria for evaluating resources on the Internet.

Goal VII:  To support various curriculum initiatives such as Crossroads Revisited and the College Algebra Initiative.
